10 Aug A Short Story: Thrill Her.
*This story is entirely a work of fiction.*
She said:
That really was like watching a thriller movie… that’s a very unique style of music that you created.
I said:
Yeah it’s whatever, I guess, but I feel like that type of compliment is plagued with people’s insistent destruction of my integrity when it comes to me creating entertainment. So, I just keep on writing.
She said:
Yeah… well, don’t listen to those types of people. What you did is still kind of incredible.
I said:
To me, it definitely was an achievement. Considering that entire mix tape was completed in about 35 total studio hours. That includes making all of the instrumentals from scratch, delivering the lyrics… arranging and mixing. Not to mention I never really know what I’m going to write or make when I go to the studio. All of my work is made right then.
She said:
I think it’s some of your best work… despite the use of auto-tune… I don’t think you need it.
I said:
Thanks, I was using the auto-tune as a way to kind of teach myself how to hit notes and pitches and which of those notes/pitches would sound best without it. The mix tape is still too experimental to be mainstream I think. For the album that I’m working on, I’m trying to focus on making all of the songs with a traditional song format.
She said:
I don’t think it’s too experimental, I do think stuff like that could have mainstream success.
I said:
You might be right, but the fact you said ‘could have’ mainstream success means there is still quite a heavy degree of uncertainty.
She said:
The tone of your voice carries a lot of pain… a unique pain within it. There are obviously harsh reasons for that, but to say the least, I like the way you sound. I don’t think you could create these types of ‘music movies’ without that.
I said:
I always create characters that people can relate to. What I create is fictional entertainment. I create characters that live within those stories, but that doesn’t mean those characters are who I am as a person in real life.
She said:
Who would you say you are as a person in real life then?
I said:
I would say that I am a severely intelligent man… a very caring and soft-spoken person. Tough when I need to be, quiet when I should be. And I love women… although I’m still searching for that right girl to wife up.
She said:
(Smiles)
When you do find that girl, she’s going to be a very lucky girl. I noticed that you used the word ‘severely’ to describe intelligence. Why did you choose that word?
I said:
Because… to have a heightened sense of knowledge and wisdom is more of a curse than it is a gift. And the reason I say that is because it creates such a burden on the consciousness: it’s exhausting. And I think when I do find that right girl; I’m going to be the lucky one because I know I’m not the easiest person to deal with.
She said:
(Smiles and blushes)
I think you’re kind of harsh on yourself… you seem like a gentleman. I also want to add that your subtle use of imagery is incredible… like really incredible.
I said:
(Smiles)
Well, imagery stems from just good storytelling. I like telling stories. I always have. I’m not saying I’m the best musician or artist, but I do think when it comes to telling cohesive stories that I’m definitely making a name for myself as one of the best.
She said:
I’m going to be honest with you for a second and just say that I could listen to you speak all day.
I said:
Then I’ll also be honest with you shorty and say that I could look at you smiling all day. I have a new song that I think I’m going to release in a week or so; I think that it is really dope. In the meantime, I’m just spending time in the studio practicing and sometime next month I’ll continue working on my album.
She said:
You’re also kind of charming, I see. And I look forward to hearing that song.
I said:
I’m getting kind of thirsty; maybe we should go and have some drinks?
She said:
I’d like that.
