The Mafia: Chapter Eighteen

*This rough draft is entirely a work of fictional writing*

D and Jane are in a limo on their way to a popular disco club named Natural High that the family owns and operates. It’s located somewhere uptown – while no one knows exactly where it is, everyone knows where to go – that’s how you know it is lantern lit.

Jane takes a sip from her cranberry vodka beverage, “Well, well, well if it isn’t Mister Macho Man. I can’t remember the last time that we went on an evening affair.”

D takes out a comb from his shirt pocket and quickly slicks his back his hair, “You don’t have to jab at me with such obvious condescendence. I didn’t come here for that.”

Jane pours more vodka into her drink while saying, “Oh come on. Don’t be so sensitive. I wasn’t speaking condescendingly; my tone of voice was mostly littered with inebriated flirtatious sass. You used to like that.”

D takes a sip of whiskey, neat with no ice, “Either way…. Why has your eyesight been paying so much attention to me then? A boatload of attention…”

Jane speaks condescendingly, “Okay Dr. Corleone – if you’re as good as Isabella so eloquently described at writing prescriptions – let me see you prescribe on the spot. Let me get a coke line then…”

D quickly slicks his hair back with his come then takes out a piece of paper and writes with his pen: If our hearts were to ever drift distant, well, distance is just an estimated time of arrival; fate never fades.

D then hands the paper to Jane, she quickly reads it and says, “Aw D. You are so sweet.”

D alters his demeanor, “Okay so why all of a sudden your body language started speaking thottie towards me – after you read that?”

Jane without hesitation gently slaps D, “Don’t speak like your older brother…” then she grabs the comb from his pocket, “And give me that stupid comb!” and breaks it.

The chauffeur immediately rolls down the partition and throws D another comb, “Here ya go bro.” D catches it and puts it in his shirt pocket, “Thanks bro.”

Jane is infuriated, “You’re way too macho. You didn’t even read or sing me the line you jerk! Minimal effort when it comes to me.”

D responds suavely, “That’s because I don’t sing…. Never sang a day in my life.”

Jane elevates her voice in frustration, “Oh really? That’s funny because I overheard you singing to someone on the phone the other day – who exactly was she? I won’t hesitate to kill a bitch.”

Mary and Avi are enjoying some quality time together at a new type of restaurant where the only light is a lit candle upon each table – it creates a very romantic atmosphere and is Mary’s favorite dinner date spot.

Avi looks at the menu, “Woo! These prices are pricy especially for something spicy – sheesh.”

Mary blushes, “Are you sure you can afford it?”

Avi smiles and pretends to look for his wallet, “I don’t know Mary – I think I might have left my wallet at home.”

Mary promiscuously sips from her glass of wine, “I might have some hundies in my purse from all the tips you gave me earlier…”

Avi takes a sip of beer with his pinky finger raised, “I know that you see my pinky pimpin’.”

Mary rolls her eyes, “Barely. Anyways, let’s put the jokes aside for a second – how do you think we’re doing?”

Avi takes a few moments before he responds, “I think that we’re doing the best that we can, given the situation that we are in. I don’t think anyone wants another full out Mafia war – I certainly don’t. It is the year 2022 and humans should have evolved into a diplomacy-first mentality.”

Mary closes her eyes, “I love when you speak. However, I personally don’t think that we will see much change without us pursuing some sort of forcible action – whether that’s through the legal system or through strategic strong-arm endeavors.”

Avi takes a sip of water, “What’s the point of diamonds when people aren’t even trying to do the right thing?”

Mary looks through the candlelight, “Exactly. Your poetic interpretation of my sentiment is a beautiful one.”

Jay and Littia are sitting at a bar inside of a low-key western style pub.

Littia takes a shot of tequila with no lime or salt, “You boys are hard to get ahold of these days…”

Jay takes a tequila shot with a lime, “It’s been hectic – a lot of stuff for us to figure out and ponder on… it has been bindingly stressful.”

Littia sighs, “So meeting with your ‘side chick’ just once a month is a good enough vice for you? A temporary void that’s filled sporadically?”

Jay takes a bite of his burger, “Don’t be so temperamental – you knew what you signed up for.”

Littia rolls her eyes, “I’ve known and been with you boys longer than any of those other girls – yet I don’t get a seat at the table? I don’t get a room at the house? I don’t get to love you all regularly?”

Jay takes another bite of his burger, “It’s not fair… I know. It’s not fair to you, but you know how heavy-handed Jane is about this – she really despises you for some reason.”

Littia smacks her hand on the bar table, “She despises everyone! And what’s going on with D? Some other slut took my job!”

Jay calmly replies, “If that’s what you want to call it Littia… I don’t think anyone took your ‘job.’ Besides, how did you even hear about that some other girl is enamored over D?”

Littia chugs half of her beer, “Well. You know how close Maria and I are… she called me the other day saying some whore named Selena is all up on D’s balls – sending him flavorful emojis and whatnot!”

Jay looks at Littia, “Since when do you have such a hot temper?”
