A Short Story: Morning.

*This story is entirely a work of fiction.*

I said:

Yeah, I don’t know, let me know what you think about this:

Early morning, the world was quiet,

Rain arranged as humidity along the shingles of the house,

A cocoon hovered over the gutter during its last stage of metamorphosis,

The shutters developed a creak from the rust of the hinges,

The dull light from the lanterns kissed the front porch with supplemental illumination,

A woman to the right of me was sitting, comfortably, in an antique chair,

Her body language angled a convincing sultry, while her eyes were tantalized with sublimation from her moment of contemplation,

Steam from the coffee mugs permeated into the air,

Local critters crawled through the dew-stricken grass,

A smile on the woman’s face slowly incremented the sun dial,

It’s interesting how fast time appears to move during sunrise and sunset,

We sat there for a while as the candle in the lantern waxed to it’s last breathe,

The evening’s shadows hugged the porch we sat on until the only visible light was from the starry skyline,

A bottle of wine on the table, as she lit a match over my notepad, so that I could see what I was writing.

She said:

(Takes a sip from her coffee)

Avi… that’s how you practice writing?

I said:

Yeah, why?

She said:

Well, it’s not really poetry it’s just imagery.

I said:

Yeah, right now I’m practicing the use of imagery. I want to be able to take any scenario and make it feel like a moment.

She said:

(Smiles, but says nothing)

I said:

Why are you blushing and crushing over my words then?

She said:

(Laughs)

Because the imagery is very good, are you going to read it to me?

I said:

I can’t really make songs like that anymore, they’re dope but they don’t have that mass appeal. Unfortunately, I need to work on creating a product that can have that sort of appeal.

She said:

(Smiles)

Avi, you don’t have to speak like a robot when you’re talking to me.

I said:

Imagery is extremely important in story telling and I want to be one of the best storytellers. People, whether they admit it or not, love to be told stories. It’s just in the human DNA, it always has.

She said:

So why don’t you read it to me right now, in person, a cappella?

I said:

(Smiles)

That’s asking for a lot.

She said:

(Rolls her eyes, takes a sip from her coffee, but says nothing)

I said:

Shorty, why you gotta be looking better and better every time I see you? Why you gotta do me like that.

She said:

It’s interesting… the way you speak. Literally every sentence you say is in a different tone.

I said:

Yeah, what’s wrong with that? I don’t really control it, it just happens.

She said:

No, I’m saying I like it. It keeps me entertained and hooked.

I said:

(Laughs)

Ah… so I see you’re finally admitting that I’ve got you hooked then?

She said:

So, what keeps you this motivated? Obviously it’s not to make a ton of money, you know it’s very difficult to make any sort of money in the music industry.

I said:

(Slightly laughs)

Woah… speak for your self. I plan to make an enormous amount of money in the entertainment industry and in doing so I feel like I’m going to open the doors for a lot of other artists. What else keeps me motivated? I guess I just want to be on a level where other people are forced to have to confront me and look me in the eyes… there’s a lot of hate and false connotations that people attach to my name. I want them to repeat that to me in person. That’s a huge motivation for me.

She said:

Yeah, unfortunately, I know exactly what you’re talking about and I’m sorry for that… but, just know that for every person that hates, there’s another person who actually really wants the chance to be able to meet you in person.

I said:

Shorty, why is your eyes looking like that right now?

She said:

(Pulls out a pocket mirror and looks at herself) My eyes always look like this?
