A Short Story: Mysterious

*This story is entirely a work of fiction.*

She said:

(Skeptically)

So… you really don’t take any drugs?

I said:
(Affirmatively)

None.

She said:

(Skeptically)

… and that’s only you in your new songs?

I said:
Yeah… shorty, I don’t know what you’re trying to get at here…

She said:

(Slightly condescending tone of voice)

Okay because one minute you’re making monotone spoken word poetry and then the next minute you sound like 5 different rappers/singers…? And it’s not even like when people are good at impersonations… it’s like your tone of voice is… them…?

I said:

Shorty… why is you over there getting wet with your questions towards me? Let me explain, so I might hit the trees a bit, drink a beer or two and then I just freestyle as many takes as possible on every beat…

She said:

(Smiles)

So… you freestyle singing?

I said:
Yeah.

She said:

What the fuck?

I said:
What do you mean?

She said:
(Puts her hair up while smiling)

The melodies you make… are different… unconventional, but somehow really catchy.

I said:

(Laughs)

Spiritual melodies, shorty, those are some spiritual melodies and I can’t use them to be combative so, I use them to make music. The only piece that’s left is to incorporate rapped verses, which is what I plan to do next month… and then it should go good from there.

She said:

(Squints her eyes)

You’re just like one big fucking mystery.

I said:

(Laughs)

Shorty, why do you have so much interest in cursing directly into my eardrum like that? And I thought that you liked mysterious guys…?

She said:

I do like mysterious guys but this is a different level.

I said:
(Charming tone)

Woman, shorty, girl, lady, so why are you in love with the songs I wrote to you then

She said:

(Blushes)

Don’t start singing to me like that.

I said:

So which song are you liking the best?

She said:

I’ve only heard the clips that you sent me, but I like the one where you switch from rapping in that deeper tone of voice and then immediately go into a higher-pitch singing… it’s sexy.

I said:

(Smiles)

Shorty, why is you calling me sexy all of a sudden?

She said:
Don’t get used to it.

I said:

(Deeper tone of voice)

Shorty, why don’t you move in a little closer and let me whisper some new poetry to you… you’ve got me feeling like writing some real poetry.

She said:

(Rolls her eyes and speaks with a sassy tone of voice)

You should always feel like writing poetry to me. And on another note, I can see why people want to fight you… I think they secretly and weirdly want to see how potently quick you can defeat them.

I said:

Yeah… I guess I still don’t understand that concept. I mean, music is not a combative sport. Music is simply organized sound. Regardless, I’ll fight anyone anytime though, as long as I get paid.

She said:

(Looks warm)

Confident.

I said:

(Confidently)

You’d be confident like this also if you knew that you could sign any dead musical legend instantaneously.
